These fish prey on blueback herring and trout. These fish like to pack up and swarm the banks during the summer and live out deep in the winter. During the spring and fall everything plays well here.

Details: Lake Glenville is a well kept secret in the mountains of Western NC. Lake Glenville fishing is incredible both for quantity and quality. Lake Glenville has an abundance of blueback herring and bream which are the main food sources for the predatory fish. Clear water and great fishing sum up this mountain gem! 

Nantahala Lake

Nantahala, NC

Species: Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass

Launch: Nantahala Public Boat Access

Details: Nantahala Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the mountains of Western NC! It is a diverse fishery filled with big bass, walleye, perch, trout and even kokane salmon. The baitfish in this lake are threadfin shad and blueback herring. The bass will school on the threadfin shad and herring but the main forage for plus sized largemouth and smallmouth are trout. Big trout swimbaits are great lures to throw to produce GIANT bass!

Lake Chatuge

Hayesville, NC

Lake Jocassee

Details: Lake Jocassee is a well kept secret in the mountains of upstate SC! Home to 5 record fish, Lake Jocassee is one of the best trophy fisheries in the country! This place is the home of double digit largemouth bass and World Record caliber smallmouth and spotted bass! The water is deep and extremely clear! This lake is full of blueback herring, trout, perch and many other species of small baitfish that help the bass grow to GIANT size!

Bear Creek Lake

Tuckasegee, NC

Species: Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye

Launch: Bear Creek Lake Public Access 

Details: Fishing Bear Creek Lake is awesome. There are a lot of trees and bream that hold in the trees. Big largemouth rule these waters and can be caught shallow and deep! With Bear Creek being pretty remote, the lake does not get a lot of heavy pressure. The quantity is not the greatest but the quality is always something to brag about!

Lake Burton

Tiger, GA

Fontana Lake

Bryson City, NC

Details: Fontana Lake is the deepest lake in NC and arguably the clearest water. With a dense population of threadfin shad, gizzard shad, bream and trout are the food sources for bass! There are always a ton of fish to be caught when fishing on Fontana Lake and every once in a while you can catch a true mountain giant!
